“While we teach, we learn” Seneca
Strengthening our body/mind connection through the arts.
Over the years I have developed a method intended for singers, actors or anyone interested in exploring or using the voice as a practice and/or in performance. At the beginning of each session we explore the extension of movement into sound and vibration, which is proven to alter our perception and activate space differently than movement alone. Further, we experience a dialogue between spoken language, dancing, singing and movement . This practice has proven to boost students's confidence. Most of the exercises we practice are extracted from The Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais and the Buteyko Breathing methods combined with dance (improvisation), Yoga, and Sound Therapy.
For those who choose the visual arts as a way of expression this practice is optional.
VOICE DANCE ART
VOICE, DANCE, ACTING ( PRIVATE LESSONS ) - NEW YORK
Alejandro is truly one of a kind. I am a dancer. I never thought I would be able to sing and feel confident about it, and in a very short period of time of intense and professional training he got me to the point where I was successful on my first official singing audition ever, and I owe it all to him. I can´t wait to continue growing learning and developing with his technique, and get my singing to the next level once more.
VOICE - Styles taught
Classical (art song, concert rep)
Musical theatre (legit)
Musical theatre (contemporary)
Singing releases endorphins into your system and makes you feel energized and uplifted. People who sing are healthier than people who don’t.
Singing gives the lungs a workout,
Singing tones abdominal and intercostal muscles and the diaphragm, and stimulates circulation.
Singing makes us breathe more deeply than many forms of strenuous exercise, so we take in more oxygen, improve aerobic capacity and experience a release of muscle tension as well.” — Professor Graham Welch, Director of Educational Research, University of Surrey, Roehampton, UK
Singing can help prolong life.
Scientists say singing boosts the immune system.
MOVEMENT with SALSA "Casino"
Salsa dancing has roots from all over the Latin world, each people group adding their own unique flair to the core basic rhythm. Each of these styles offers a different flavor. Cuba is a country that was influenced heavily by Africa, and in particular Nigeria and Congo. This Afro-Cuban flavor creates a style of salsa dancing that is earthy, sensual, powerful, and heavily reliant upon improvisation and "feeling the music."
I grew up dancing "casino" in the streets of my hometown, and that is the style that I like to teach to groups or individually, a style danced by everyone and anyone, at any time and in any place. Each week I take my students to dance at a club with live salsa. Sign up today and join us in our next meet up.
Creating art relieves stress, encourages creative thinking, increases brain plasticity, and imparts other mental health benefits. And anyone can do art.
